Birdie BBQ

It looks like an ordinary BBQ doesn't it? ...... HAH.....nothing can be so simple in my world. It took a 6 year old boy to find out its secret. This is what transpired last Friday afternoon.

DS: Mom, there's something in the BBQ.

Me: What is it?

DS: Just come look.

Okay, there's a bird's nest in our BBQ. I can understand that. "How ingenious," I think to myself. "What a clever bird, picking a great spot like that"

HOWEVER

BBQ season is upon us and I have needs. I have a need for DH to do most of the cooking. Since he gladly takes on the mantle of chef during this time of year, I look forward to the respite. So with the kids help, we removed all traces of the nest.

I know what you are thinking. I am not an uncaring kind of person. We took the nest portion and put in securely in our cedar hedge.

HOWEVER

Mother Nature has her own agenda. "Get back into that kitchen and cook your kids a meal"

Well I guess that the BBQ is prime real estate and the bird has squatter's rights. Last night.....

DS: Mom there's another bird's nest in the BBQ.

Me: Okay, let's get rid of it.

This time there is more than just a nest.

I guess that I can wait a little longer for BBQ season.

Until next time
Yours in Yarn,
The Fibreholic

Are those robin's eggs? That's awesome! Well...except for the the BBQ sacrifice. Maybe a new BBQ so you can provide a secure nesting spot for years to come?

That darned nature, it's so persistent. Al least you'll be able to take some baby birdy pictures for our entertainment.

Awwwww! I, too, would give up the privilege of BBQ for however long it took to hatch the birdies. You'll have.. um... a bird's eye view of events as they unhatch!!! Keep us posted, loads of pics, please.

i know you want a BBQ but that's so damn great. Question - how is it you have so much straw in your BBQ anyway?

Oh my goodness! That is crazy! That poor bird had no idea how dangerous that might have been! Talk about an active science experiment!!!

Please unhook the gas line from the BBQ so that there are no unexpected gas leaks into the bbq. You are so incredibly lucky to have this. Obviously the squirrel attacks are on the rise because I have nests in the elbows of my downspouts where the squirrels can't get to them. Same thing around the neighbourhood.

That is too cute for words. You sure will be waiting to cook there.
LOL.
Last year I put a little birdhouse on the backporch for decoration and sure enough, little birds arrived. So cute too.

OOh! You've got to update us!

You are a kind person! - Maybe you could buy a second hand or broken down BBQ and pop the nest in there?

OH, see? This is exactly why I love the internet! You get to find out that other people are way worse off than you are! We were arguing this weekend over whether we could move a bird's next from our hose hanging thingy in order to put our hose back up for the summer. (My husband was all like "to hell with the bird," and I was all like "leave the frickin' bird alone.") I can't wait to tell him about this, though. Because this takes the cake!
